About Home Birth Care

Our home birth clients receive routine prenatal visits throughout their pregnancy and a home visit in the third trimester. You will have access to 24/7 on-call access to your midwife from 37 weeks through the 6 week postpartum period. You will be able to reach the midwife with urgent concerns, as well as call us when you are in active labor and want us to come to your home for your baby's birth.

We bring equipment and emergency medications, including those to prevent or control postpartum hemorrhage, IV fluids, antibiotics for Group B Strep prophylaxis (if needed and desired), lidocaine for suturing, oxygen, and the standard baby medications. No medications will be given to you or your baby without your consent.

After your baby's birth, we do a full newborn assessment, where we weigh and measure your baby and monitor their vital signs. We monitor you and make sure your postpartum bleeding is within normal range and that you are recovering normally from the birth. We stay with you at your home for 2-4 hours and leave once you and your baby are stable and ready for a well-deserved nap.

Your midwife visits you and your baby at home for your first postpartum and newborn visit at 28-48 hours after your baby's birth. We see you and your baby again at the office at 1-2 weeks and 6 weeks following the birth.

Numerous studies show that planned home birth with an experienced midwife is a safe option for low-risk women experiencing normal pregnancies:
